Michael Chu
I believe everyone has their own story, and I want to hear yours.

Living my life between two countries (Canada and Hong Kong) has made me aware of the importance of connection and the struggles of finding a home and fitting in. I have lived and breathed the importance of family, of culture, and how our environment can shape who we are. More importantly, I have found the importance of seeking help in understanding myself to find the life that I want to live.

I have also lived a life where my voice wasn't heard, where silence was the safest way of getting by, where emotional expression was seen as a weakness. I lived with expectations of stoicism, where I was the pillar for those around me. It was suffocating and a torturous experience. I have learned the power of being heard, understood, and validated, and that there is strength in vulnerability.

These experiences have shown me the importance of mental health for men and the limited avenues we have available to seek a listening ear and, more importantly, help with our silent struggles.

Through Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, I have reflected and found myself through the struggles of depression, anxiety, loss of purpose, and so much more to seek my direction. I believe we can work together to achieve the same goal for you as well.

Outside of therapy, I'm an avid gamer who enjoys long walks in a park during autumn weather.

My Philosophy
I believe that everyone is leading their own unique lives and that therapy will be different for everyone. No session or treatment will be the same. Your therapy is uniquely tailored to you and your struggles, goals, and aspirations. Most importantly, therapy is a partnership, there can be no therapy without you.

I do not encourage you to do more or be more, but instead encourage you to slow down and take stock of what’s working and what’s not. I strongly believe you already have the tools to your success within you. All we need to do together is find them and bring them out.

I am warm, patient, and understanding and try to bring these qualities into my therapy as well. I will provide you the space you need to explore but will also ask questions so that I can better understand you and your story and allow you to reflect and better understand yourself, your habits, and how you interact with the world around you.
I enjoy bringing some humor into my sessions as well. Therapy doesn't have to be all serious and emotional. Sometimes, a good laugh can go a long way!
